UEA approached us in need for a mobile prospectus. We proposed 'The Square' - an interactive experience documenting student life for new and existing students. The Square provided open day sign up functionality, an interactive campus map, accommodation tours and more.
The Square is a revolutionary app experience un-offered by another universities. Users start by creating a profile and registering their interests. From their degree level to which courses they are interested in, the app uses this data to tailor the experience and the content the user sees within it.
The content within the app ranges from student stories to open day information, but UEA has the ability to control what content is present within the app thanks to a custom content management system which links with the app.
A mapping feature with filter, sort and route-navigation information was built directly within the app. The app also integrated directly with social media and was able to extract hash-tags or comments relating to a specific phrase or wording.
The open day functionality allowed users to plan an open day experience, book talks or seminars that interested them and also register for further information.
iBeacon functionality built into the app added an extra level of real-world interaction by providing context-rich campus tours relating to building and academic information as a user walked round campus.
For anyone who has visited or studied at UEA would understand the significance of the name The Square. As a focal point of campus, the square located outside the SU and library, is where people come together and share experiences after a long day studying. The app aimed to mirror this ethos – and so the name was adopted.
